Modern History

The following is the official history as it is found in the Tower of Magi library. It is broken up by age, The Age of Malchor (AM) covers all events after the Millenia of Chaos and before the Cataclysm, the Imperial Age (IA) covers all events after the Cataclysm to present day. A more complete history may be found with a high enough Knowledge History check.

The Age of Malchor:
0 AM- Mages from the Order of Vissix approach Malchor Regis, telling him he is destined to bring the continent out of chaos.
1 AM- Malchor establishes the Ganthonian Empire, with the old city-state of Ganoth as the capital.
3 AM- The Ganthonian Empire and Lucali become allies.
6 AM- Contact with the north is established.
10 AM- King Malchor Regis launches a campaign against the border kingdoms of the west, in an attempt to expand the territories held by the Ganthonian Empire.
34 AM- After nearly a quarter of a century of bloodshed, the remaining border kingdoms surrender to Ganoth, ending the War of Red Rivers.
35 AM- Trying to placate an outraged public, King Malchor declares the area to the west of Ganoth its own soverign nation, naming it Evenfall.
39 AM- King Malchor dissolves the Ganthonian Empire, establishing in its place the Imperial Alliance, a fairer system of international government.
62 AM- King Faes negotiates with the barbarian tribes to the North of Lucali, managing to unite the waring clans under a High Chieftan. The country of Svatch is formed.
70 AM- Svatch formally joins the Imperial Alliance.
72 AM- Tension starts to rise between the Dragon Worshipping North, and the primarily Lucali Worshipping South.
76 AM- The Mage Council meets between the Order of Vissix who safeguard the Eye of Arvanis and the Sacred Order of the Talon, who worship the Talon of Arvanis. A treaty was signed, never to use Elder Magik in the affairs of nations. This treaty was later named the Drake Pact.
80 AM- The Avridiel Hegemony is established in the North.
110 AM- King Malchor Regis III attempts to lay claim to the mountains that divide the North and South of Avridiel. The Avridiel Hegemony argues against Ganoth’s claim to the land.
111 AM- Negotiations continue for the mountains between the North and South as tension rises.
113 AM- For four years the negotiations have been held over the disputed land between the North and South, Malchor Regis III not backing down. However due to immense pressure from the Imperial Council, the King and the Hegemony end up backing down, the area being titled “No Man’s Land”
132 AM- Prince Edrin of Ganoth, goes on a diplomatic mission north in the Avridiel Hegemony, the goal to ease tension between the North and the South.
133 AM- Prince Edrin goes missing during his mission. At first reports from the Hegeomony claims that Prince Edrin committed a crime according to the laws of the land. Soon afterwards however the Hegemony claims Prince Edrin “disappeared”. The Hegemony denies all reports that Prince Edrin was seen in custody.
134 AM- Small skirmishes between the Hegemony and the Imperial Alliance break out all across No-Man’s Land.
135 AM- War is declared between the North and South. It will later be named the Cataclysm War.
140 AM- The Cataclysm War continues to rage across Avridiel with little hope of an end. People whisper that a new age of Chaos would soon descend upon the continent.
141 AM- A mage from the Order of Vissix travels to No Man’s Land, there raising a staff and bringing it down to the ground in a swift crack. Splitting the North and South from each other. Soon the mists descend upon the newly split continent and travel between the two halves of the continent becomes impossible. This is named the Cataclysm.

The Imperial Age:
1 IA- The Mages of Vissix, give a warning to the Imperial Alliance. “Keep the Peace or we shall intervene again.”
2 IA- The Mages of Vissix rise an impenetrable barrier around their country. No one is quite sure of the reason, many rumors fly around the reason.
10 IA- The Tower of the Magi is established.
12 IA- The religion of Lucali is declared the official religion of Ganoth.
15 IA- Evenfall formerly opens its borders for all Northern refugees who were trapped on the wrong side during the Cataclysm.
26 IA- The Underking an insane Sorcerer turned lich rises an undead army in the old sewers below Ganoth, vowing to strike at the heart of the Imperial Alliance.
27 IA- A small band of heroes calling themselves “The Harbingers of Peace” slay the Underking and most of his undead army.
30 IA- The Iron Sentinel is killed in ritual combat against the High Chieftan Uldrid, leader of Svatch. Although the Lucali populace is outraged, the duel was held according to the laws of the Imperial Alliance and was over a supposed personal matter, no military actions are taken.
37 IA- The religion of Lucali is declared the official religion of the Imperial Alliance. Dissidents from Svatch begin launching attacks in Ganoth and Lucali. The High Chieftan Uldrid officially disavows the dissidents however many suspect he is secretly assisting them.
45 IA- High Chieftan Uldrid is killed and replaced by High Chieftan Verik, also known as Verik the Timid. High Chieftan Verik vows to the Imperial Alliance to wipe out all traces of the Svatch dissidents who have been terrorizing Lucali and Ganoth for the past eight years.
63 IA- Evenfall falls into anarchy after a Merchant Lord is assasinated in his home, surrounded by his guards. The remaining Merchant Lords withdraw all their forces to their mansions, leaving the streets unpatrolled.
64 IA- With the help of the Imperial Army, Evenfall is brought out of anarchy.
90 IA- The Imperial Alliance passes the free trade act, opening their borders for trade between the East and the West free of tariffs from Ganoth.
115 IA- King Edrin Regis IV of Ganoth declares the Patriotic Mage Decree, making the practice of magic illegal within Ganoth without being a member of the Tower of Magi.
116 IA- Edrin Regis IV pushes the Imperial Council to enforce the Patriotic Mage Decree across all of Avridiel. Encouraging the other countries to establish their own Tower of Magi. The idea is met with strong opposition from the other countries.
118 IA- The push for the passing of the Patriotic Mage Decree backlashes and the Council instead passes the Arcane Freedom Act, forcing Edrin Regis IV to make an addition to the Patriotic Mage Decree, allowing visiting mages to Ganoth who are not bound to the Tower of Magi to obtain a license from a Master of the Tower of Magi to use their magic inside the borders of Ganoth, while visiting the country.
130 IA- An Elder Dragon was sighted in the mountains outside of Lucali. A request for massive military support is submitted by Lucali’s Diplomat to the Imperial Alliance and the countries that compose it.
153 IA- The rat problem in Ganoth escalates, until finally a Miller’s family is killed in a swarm. King Casimir II is largely credited for mobilizing an effort to exterminate the vermin.
188 IA- The Great Chieftan’s Daughter and the Iron Sentinel’s appointed heir are kidnapped just before they are set to be married. Game Begins.
